Sarasota Scullers Coaching Staff

 

Dragos Alexandru (Alex)

Head Coach & Program Director

A former Olympic Team rower (XXII Olympics) and Level 3 Certified Coach by the U.S. Rowing Association, Coach Alex has been leading the Scullers’ rowing program since 2003. He directs and manages the team’s water and dry land training programs, and competitive and Regatta schedule, including preparing members and traveling with them to every Regatta.

 

Prior to joining the Scullers, he was the Head Coach for Friends Academy (1998-2001), Junior and Masters Coach for the Sagamore Rowing Club (1990-2002), and part-time coach for the New York Athletic Club (1988-89). He also served as the assistant coach for the Romanian Pre-Olympic Women’s Team in 1982-83.

 

A graduate of the Polytechnic College in Bucharest, Romania where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Coach Alex also attended the Institute of Physical Education and Sports in Bucharest and is certified in CPR and First Aid.

 

 

Kirby Gallie

Varsity Coach

A former Sarasota Scullers team member (2001-2002), Coach Kirby brings an impressive NCAA champion medalist resume and experience to the team, competed all three years on varsity at the NCAA Championships, andin 2006 was named to the All American Team, All Big Ten Team, AllCentral Region Team. Kirby was also nominated for the University of Wisconsin's Female Athlete of the Year in 2006 and received an
Honorable Mention.

 

Kirby works closely with Coach Alex to direct the Scullers Varsity Program, including training and competition. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she was a team member on a full scholarship.
