
“The Scullers women are unstoppable," reverberated from many college coaches as they crossed the finish line.
Chattanooga TN - More than 9,000 rowers were on the Tennessee River for the 6th annual Head of the Hooch November 5 and 6th. Sarasota Scullers took home 3 Medals, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze. The Scullers women are unstoppable reverberated from many college coaches as they crossed the finish line.
The ladies placed 2nd in the Quad (4X) and the Varsity 8+. They are the reigning Florida and SE Regional Champions in these events. Four of the rowers double medaled in the Youth 8+ and Youth 4X category respectively. Devon Norder and Shawna Sims raced together for the first time and place 3rd in the 2- event. Shawna Sims double medaled as well, in the pair (2- ) and Varsity 8+ events.
The Men’s Varsity 4 + had an outstanding 5th place finish out of a field of 70 from all over the United States. These boys had a 2nd place finish at the Head of the Schuylkill another top rated head race 2 weeks ago. “They are national contenders”, Randy Higel, Scullers Men’s Varsity Coach stated.
The Lightweight women turned in an outstanding 5th place finish after rowing together for a very short time.
This concludes Head Season and Sprint Season begins in January where the teams will race 1500 meter and 1750 meter races. Four Scholastic/Youth Regattas will be held at Nathan Benderson Park beginning in February and continuing through May 2011. The other competitors were anxious to hear about the progress of the World Class 2000 meter venue coming soon to Sarasota.
