The amount of racing has a direct impact on their learning the sport and staying with it long term. They are amazing and raced well today and at Sunrise Sprints a few weeks ago. COACH BOBBY PRUETT VISITS SCULLERS!

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

“...winning a Championship is awesome, however repeating it is a feat unto itself.”

The Sarasota Scullers Championship Rowing Team had an unexpected visitor the other day at their Clubhouse on Bayview Drive in Osprey. The Women’s Head Coach Kirby Gallie and her fiancée, JT Gant, had made friends with a well known football legend that winters here…Coach Bobby Pruett and his wife Elsie. Coach Pruett coached for over 40 years at several major universities and made his mark at Marshall University with 2 undefeated seasons in 1996 and 1999.

Coach Gallie recounted to Coach Pruett and Mrs. Pruett the amazing 2010 Sprint Season, culminating with the Scullers capturing an unprecedented 11 Gold Medals at the Florida State Championships held last year at Nathan Benderson Park. The Pruetts told Gallie and Gant that winning a Championship is awesome, however repeating it is a feat unto itself. He offered to give the Scullers team a pep talk before another grueling 3 hour land practice preparing them for the start of the 2011 Sprint Season which occurred this past Saturday.

The Scullers arrived at Thursday’s practice and were told to take a seat and were introduced to Coach and Elsie Pruett. Coach Bobby Pruett spoke eloquently in footballesque terms to the 60 rowers and gave many examples of teamwork and how hard work and dedication eventually led to his amazing career coaching record of 94-23 and a successful marriage of over 50 years. Many of Coach Pruett’s players have had outstanding careers in the NFL.

The main idea that Coach Pruett taught the Scullers on Thursday was to trust and listen to their Coaches, and that “The best players do not always make the best Team, but the best Team always wins!”
