Osprey, Fla--Sarasota Scullers Coach Laura Brown started Saturday's Southern Sprints Indoor Rowing Championships in Melbourne by winning her event, the Women's Masters 30-39.

Inspired, the youth rowers won the High School Women's Novice Lightweight and placed second in the HS Women's Lightweight and HS Women's Relay events. Eight additional rowers placed in the top 10 of the highly competitive indoor rowing competition.
Shelby Ernst, a Fort Myers High School freshman, won the HS Lightweight Novice women is 7:51. The relay team of Katie Beiler, Caitlin McCann, Jessica Frisch, and Ernst placed second with a time of 6:52.6.
Jessica Frisch, Sarasota Military Academy junior, placed 2nd in the HS Lightweight Women's event with a time of 7:44.5. "I was a little disappointed in my performance because it wasn't a personal record, but I was excited and super happy that I medaled," Frisch said.
Coach Brown said she was very proud of the Sculler's performance. She noted in addition to the medals, 26 rowers set new personal records.
The Southern Sprint Championships occurs annually at the Florida Institute of Technology in January. Over 1250 individual rowers competed Saturday in a variety of age groups.
