Sarasota Scullers Youth Rowing Program entered 16 boats and earned 13 medals at the 8th annual Sarasota Invitational Regatta, Nathan Benderson Park.
The Women's Lightweight 8+ meets with county commissioner Paul Caragiulo after placing second in their event.
The Women’s 2x, Men’s 2x (A), and Women’s Novice 8+ won their Saturday races. An additional seven boats placed second and three more placed third.
Jessica Cochran, Pine View junior, competed in the Women’s Lightweight 8+, placing second. “At this regatta and American Youth Cup, it's clear that we're finally getting to a really great place,” Cochran said of the club’s performance. “The team had lots of fun and the medal count really boosted everyone's confidence for the rest of the season, giving us a great foundation and motivation to continue training hard and winning.”
Freshman coxswain Shannon Chan agreed. “I'm really proud of my team. We really revived ourselves and I can confidently say that we left our all on the water which is what matters.” Chan coxed the Women’s Lightweight 8+ and the Girls Novice 4+, also placing second.
The Boys 4x, Boys 2x (B), Boys Freshman 4+, Boys Novice 8+, and Boys Lightweight 4+ earned silver medals. Bronze medals went to two entries the Girls 4x and Girls Lightweight 4+.
The Sarasota Invitational Regatta is an annual two-day event held at Nathan Benderson Park the last weekend in February. Teams travel from around the state and nation to compete at regatta.
